A MEXICAN LOVE STORY




Many, many years ago, a famous warrior lived in the Valley of Mexico. His name was Popocatepetl. One day he met a beautiful princess called Iztaccihuatl. They fell in love as soon as they met and Popocatepetl gave her a shell necklase as gift. She loved it and wore it all the time.


they wanted to get married, but enemies declared war on the valley of Mexico and Popocatepetl and fight to defend his homeland. When he left, Itzaccihuatl was very sad. She wanted him to come back quickly but he didn't, and she started to pine for her lost love. Soon she got sick. Her father was very worried about her and when she diden't geet better, he sent for Popocatepetl.


Popocatepetl returned immediately, but he arrived too late. Itzaccihuatl was already dead. The warrior was inconsolable. He sat by his lost love's body and swore he would never leave her again.


Time passed and a blanket of snow covered the warrior and is princess. You can still see the outlines of their bodies at the edge of the Valley of Mexico today.
